Monthly Update: A Stellar September for Play Rugby AZ

September has been a monumental month for Play Rugby AZ, setting new benchmarks in community engagement, youth development, and rugby excellence. This month, we've collectively clocked 28 hours of rugby, involving multiple teams and orchestrating a series of unforgettable matches and events. Here's a detailed look at what we've achieved.

Fiesta Summer Rugby Series: A Grand Finale

The Fiesta Summer Rugby Series came to a resounding close this month. The final tournament, held on September 16th, was a 10s rugby event that exceeded all expectations. Teams like Tempe, Red Mountain, and Camelback showcased their skills in a round-robin format, culminating in a fun game of 10s rugby where players got to mix together. It was a true display of neighborhood rugby at its finest.

College Rugby: Back in Session

September marks the beginning of the fall season for local college programs like the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University, and Grand Canyon University. Both men's and women's programs have kicked off their seasons with quality rugby, promising an exciting year ahead.

Youth Rugby: Building the Future

Free rugby clinics were held to attract new players. Phoenix Firebirds organized free flag rugby clinics at the Christown YMCA in Phoenix, and Scottsdale Wolves offered free touch rugby days for girls 18 and under. These initiatives successfully engaged youth during a period that is historically dormant for youth rugby in Arizona.

Touch Rugby: New Venue, New Times

Touch rugby has moved to Fiesta Sports Complex, with new timings from 6:30-8:30 PM. We're grateful for the support from the City of Mesa as we continue to develop and expand rugby in the area.

Community Support: Every Bit Helps

A special thank you to Ken Downie for his generous donation of 4 hours ($100). If you'd like to contribute, you can do so on our website or become a Play Rugby AZ member.

Coming Up: October Plans

October is set to be another exciting month, with local senior clubs, both men and women, starting their fall seasons. The month kicks off with the Flagstaff 10s, a tournament known for great rugby and epic social events.

Conclusion

September has been a robust month for Play Rugby AZ, with significant achievements across various departments. From our athletes to our fans, thank you for being part of this remarkable journey. Here's to an even more impactful October!

Thank you for your continued support.

Best Regards, Play Rugby AZ Team
