As December closed out, let's see what youth rugby has been up to! From finishing up the Fall season to the SD Legion camp hosted by Ryan Matyas, there was plenty to do.
On December 9th, Youth gathered at Benedict Sports Complex to finish the final round of Fall matches that had previously been rained out. The younger kids enjoyed their last games of flag rugby, getting excited for tackle to start in January. The high school players got their last bits of 7's in before playing 10's and 15's for the Spring season. It looked like a great pre-season for all, and we are excited to see some more coverage in the Spring.
On December 16th, San Diego Legion hosted a community outreach camp in Tempe led by Arizona native, Ryan Matyas. There was a u14 skills session, followed by u18 talent ID camp. There were great numbers in both age groups with clubs from all over the valley representing. Matyas taught essential soft skills in a fast paced learning environment, highlighting the ideas of intent and intensity. Lots of good takeaways came from the short session, and hopefully players will take it back to their home clubs to share with others. We hope to see SD Legion again soon!
Every Monday, high school touch rugby is hosted at Countryside Park in Mesa from 6-8 pm. Players can come out and give it a try for the first time, build their skills, or just hang out and make new friends! It is completely free with no commitment necessary. Bring out friends or your team if you're not practicing!
